Making the railway accessible for all

Congratulations to our Rail Services team for safely and successfully lifting and installing the new Access for All (AfA) footbridge for Network Rail at Walton on Thames Station.

Colleagues worked hard, around the clock over a weekend possession using a 500 tonne crane to lift the main steel elements into place that form the new AFA footbridge including new lifts and staircases. Despite a last minute reduction of 7 hours working time available for the night-time possession of the line, the team were still able to complete and hand back on time for our customer.

This vital project will allow all passengers in particular those with accessibility needs to travel easier to platforms using obstacle free routes.

The last components are now being installed and then onto the finishing touches over the coming weeks prior to opening the bridge early next year to the travelling public

Huge thanks to everyone involved for your efficient work that has delighted our customer and will make a significant difference to passengers.

Watch this space for progress of the works over the coming months!
