Keeping the roads and railway running safely during severe weather

Whatever the situation or weather conditions our team is always on hand to keep roads running safely for drivers and to delight our customers.

Our R&W Civil Engineering team went above and beyond to manage flooding and help keep areas clear of debris, during severe weather conditions and in the aftermath of the recent storm, whilst carrying out works on the West Sussex highways.

Following heavy rainfall, Adam Miller, Site Manager for our E&P Farncombe to Petersfield (F2P); project which is part of the Portsmouth Direct Upgrade, noticed that the track on the Princes Bridge level crossing was flooded.

Recognising the potential danger to both workers and the railway, he quickly cancelled all scheduled works at the location. Adam then contacted the signaller to report his concerns about the flooded crossing and track. Subsequently, temporarily closed the line whilst the team waited for Network Rail to arrive on site and to complete their inspection of the area.
