At Octavius, we pride ourselves on responding quickly and effectively to challenges on the railway and ensuring the network remains safe for passengers—and our Rail Services Kent Team recently demonstrated this when called out to an emergency fault on the footbridge at Exmouth Station by Network Rail.
Initially attending to a single corroded step, our team quickly identified a more serious risk: both staircases were extremely corroded. Realising that the structure posed significant risks to passenger safety within just 72 hours, we:
✅ Designed a scaffold solution.
✅ Engaged with the client’s design management team.
✅ Planned emergency access, securing line blocks for both tracks.
✅ Installed extensive scaffold supports, keeping the footbridge open and safe.
With only 12 hours of working time granted, our team delivered an efficient and effective solution, with minimal disruption to passengers and the rail network our team made the footbridge safe.
A huge thank you to everyone for your quick actions, your response and collaboration with our customer ensured that the fotobridge can remain safely open to passengers.
