What good feels like

Collaborating with our partners to create a clucking great new home

We’re always looking for ways to support the communities we work in. Our Highways team came together with our partner Jackson Civil Engineering; who we work with to help maintain the M25 network to support the chickens at Sunnyside Rural trust, a charity in Hertfordshire that trains people with learning disabilities how to produce and care for poultry and bees.

The team put their construction skills to the test as they spent a day creating a new home for the chickens to mark #NationalChickenMonth. The new state of the art coop is not only robust but also boasts a low maintenance design, making it easy to clean. It also features many practical elements as it is UV and chemical resistant and the removable litter and nest box trays simplify the cleaning process.

These works will provide vital learning and development opportunities for the trainees who care for the chickens and help to enhance their health and wellbeing; providing them with solace and a sense of purpose.

Thanks to the team’s hard work, dedication and giving up their valuable time including several months of planning the community  chickens now have an egg-cellent new home that they can enjoy for many years to come.

Thank you to all involved for your hard work.
